  • Cream cheese frosting: 3/4 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature), 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature), 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 4 to 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1 to 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (if necessary)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, white vinegar, buttermilk, and green food coloring until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just blended.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
