  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add herbs and cheddar, then stir in buttermilk until just combined.
  2. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until it forms a smooth ball. Shape into a circle about 7 inches wide.
  3. Transfer to a floured baking sheet. Dust the top with flour and score a cross about ½ inch deep.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes until hollow when tapped.
  5. Cool wrapped in a tea towel before slicing.
